Paul addresses the preeminence of Christ because of heresy that was beginning to take root in Colossae. The heresy set forth a thought of something being added to the gospel. The terminology we use today is that of gnosticism. Gnostics believed that Christian could gain some form of superior knowledge through some form of discipline and legalism. But, this morning we'll see that the Christian's hope is not in some mystical knowledge, but in Christ alone - the hope of glory.
