What does it mean to be an American citizen? I imagine if we asked this question on the street, we’d find a variety of answers. For some, being an American citizen means the ability to vote for political leaders. For others, being an American citizen means the freedom to practice religion, the freedom of speech, or the freedom to pursue happiness. Many might say, “Being an American citizen means I have the right to be a part of the greatest nation on earth.” Unfortunately, some might think being an American citizen means only the ability to have a job or post on Twitter.
But, what does it mean to be a heavenly citizen? The answer to this question is found in our text for this evening – Philippians 3. In Philippians 3, Paul speaks to the Philippian believers and encourages them to live as heavenly citizens. Today, God’s Word encourages us to follow God’s truth as citizens of heaven.
