This past weekend, my wife and I cleaned the garage. For a lot of people, cleaning the garage is kind of a dreaded task. You get dusty, dirty. You move all the stuff that's been piling up in a corner. There's an aspect of this cleaning that gets me excited because we go back to Genesis and look at the fall of man. All of the sudden, as a result of sin a curse is upon the earth and things don't stay organized anymore. Things degenerate, get messy, and get dirty. We have to toil and labor. When we do that, we are actually fighting against the effects of the curse and sin. When I get to tackle a task like that, I realize that in some small sense I am able to tackle chaos for the glory of God - putting things back in order for God's glory.
In our passage in 1 Corinthians 1, we find the message of the gospel. God promises to fight the effects of sin – not by cleaning up a garage, but by the foolishness of the gospel.
